A short call with a recruiter, and then a no. Screens fail for narrower reasons than interviews, which makes this one of the more diagnosable rejections.
A recruiter screen checks alignment, not depth: compensation range, location and work arrangement, seniority match, and whether you can describe your experience in a way that maps onto the role. Most screen rejections trace to a mismatch on one of these, sometimes one that was visible in the posting all along. The useful question is which one.
If the range was off, that is market data. If the seniority read differently to them than to you, your materials may be pitching you at the wrong level. If your description of your own work did not map to their brief, the gap is in translation rather than substance. Each of these has a concrete next move, and they are not the same move.
The Debrief on this page takes your specific case apart: a few questions about the role, the stage, and what was said, and an analysis of what most likely happened. Free, no account needed.
